Guinea pigs are grass-eating animals, so they need a high-fibre diet of hay, high-quality guinea pig food, and fresh fruits and vegetables.
Guinea pig food should be fed to ensure a complete and balanced diet. We recommend nugget-based guinea pig food, as it provides nutritious nutrition in the form of extruded pellets, ensuring your pet gets all the nutrients it needs from its food. Cereal-based foods, on the other hand, tend to be selective when feeding, which can lead to nutritional deficiencies.
In addition to grass and guinea pig food, fresh fruits and vegetables should be fed regularly. Kale, broccoli, cabbage, and melon are all good options. Fresh fruits and vegetables are good sources of vitamin C, as guinea pigs cannot produce it themselves and, therefore, need it regularly to stay healthy. To ensure your guinea pig gets enough vitamin C, you can also add supplements to their diet; these are listed in the "Treatments and Supplements" section.
